The Latymer School is a high-achieving institution with a long history of success. To maintain that reputation and supercharge its science education, the school invested in a significant makeover of a third of its lab spaces in 2023.

Four separate labs and a prep room all needed refurbishment to get them up to the desired standard, and Lab Fit was chosen as the perfect partner.

We designed a proposed scope of works which would all take place within the seven-week summer holiday period to ensure that there was no disruption to the students’ education during term time.

This time constraint made it a tricky project, but our knowledge and experience enabled us to get the job done in the time allowed.

New fixed and mobile island benching was installed with Trespa worktops throughout. The school wanted ‘wing’ island benching so that all pupils could face forwards without sacrificing access to sinks and gas for practical work.

The new benching required extensive water, waste and gas pipework which we installed through the floor and the ceiling voids as appropriate.

Other new features of the labs included fume cupboards which were added to the existing fume duct network, and fans which were tested to ensure they were in good working order.

New teaching walls were provided which would incorporate the existing smart boards and roller whiteboards. By liaising with the school IT and AV departments, we were able to install these with minimal hassle.

Finally, we painted and decorated all rooms so that they were ready to help students at Latymer School succeed in their studies once the new academic year began.

The project was completed on time and to budget, even accounting for several variations added by the client during the works.
